Freehad1: @LaughForever62110 amazon has them for five bucks...just did mine and
curly380: Thanks for the helpful video. I have a question. Some of the light bulbs
behind the fuel and RPM gauge are out what bulb size is used to change them
out. Would a LED be safe to use?
Scott Trunkhill: @a2188r Doesn't sound like the same problem as what I was having. Does it
do it if you run the wipers and it isn't raining?
Jay Huck: I have a 2007 Monte Carlo, the gas gauge says i have a 1/4 tank left but it
is really a empty tank and i ran out of gas, does the gauge need to be
reset or is it my float in the tank?
140095VS: Thanks for the great tutorial! I'll be repairing the tachometer on my
Montana next weekend.
George Burgers: i replaced all stepper motors on my cluster but i erred in replacing the
needles. I forgot to mark the original placement of the needles and
esitmated where they used to mark. Now my RPM marks at 1000rpm where it
should mark 0. My gas meter needle is always at E and my temp gauge marks
half way when i turn on my car. How do you suggest I repair this mistake?
thank you for the video
Scott Cogbill: I put a new motor on the speedometer and now all it does is jump up and
down about the equivalent of 1 mph. Any ideas on what I did wrong? Thanks.
Scott Trunkhill: @CantBeTouched91 If you haven't already done it I replaced some bulbs last
weekend and recorded it. Look in my channel
MileyCyrus192: @MrVikingsathome if your fuel gauge gone bad it may not even be the gauge
piece itself. it maybe be the fuel sending unit that sense how much gas is
in the tank and it is control by the float that move up and down in the
tank and sometime certain gas station does not change their pump and still
use old gas and you use that gas it will cause corrosion on the electronic
of the sending unit. if you read "E" all the time it maybe one of your
wires that broke on the sending unit.
bskyoon: When this first happened I just pushed my speedometer and oil pressure
needles back and resintalled the guages, of course they went haywire again.
My question is, will that affect my calibration? Will my indexing be
accruate if I replace the stepper motors and remove the needles? Also my
speedometer stops around 80mph, so when I index i would install at the
12oclock position and then spin it counterclockwise back to around 80?
Thanks a lot, the video is great
MansonJs: Thank You So Much!!!!!! Keep the videos coming. Guys like you help us save
money and have more pride working on our cars or trucks!!!!! Thanks Again
hackbotX: Very good video, I replaced the motors in my 2005 Sunfire and things worked
well. One problem here, how the hell do you calibrate the needles? like an
idiot I put them in at zero vs 12:00 position. I did the wind trick like
you showed, but the temp gauge is hosed up. Is it safe to assume I can keep
doing the spin trick to get that back in the right position?
Thomas East: Scott. Great video. I have a question for you. I changed out the gauge
motors and they work fine but I also wanted to change out the LED's. I
bought the 5mm blue LED's. I soldered them in place and now none of the
LED's are working. I can make them flicker when I plug/unplug the harness
connector, but they won't stay on. Any suggestions.
brorville: thanks to your video...changed stepper motors on 04 impala gauges easy job
theking5784: Hey great video, i did everything right gauges work but for some reason
they turn off and don't come back on unless I squeeze the cluster or
something. Any idea why this may be happening? Also my gear display stopped
appearing how do I fix that? Thank you
TheSyth2001: Probably have a loose conenction in the plug. Tap the top of the dashboard
above the panel a bit.
Smiddo Dawg: Perfect repair video
los365diasdelano: got it, thanks 4 the help
Scott Trunkhill: @LaughForever62110 Follow the link in the description for the video. On
that page there are links to everything you need to do the job.
Scott Trunkhill: @MrVikingsathome Those are controlled by the stepper motors. See the link
in the description of this video. On that page is a link to get the
replacement stepper motors
alexpao223: Will taking out the Guage Cluster reset the odometer?
EnviroRico: Be careful not to hit any little ICs... I made that mistake... once I fixed
my error worked good!
Scott Trunkhill: You have to replace them. The problem is with the motor not the soldering.
Scott Trunkhill: @marjjr100 I don't know if they are the same or not. I don't think they are
or they might have been included in the recall.
jdh023: If I understand this correctly, you must replace ALL solder motors even if
only my speedometer is the only malfunctioning gauge AND buy a solver
remover (wouldn't a soldering work just as well)? Can this item be bought
other than an expensize dealership? Thanks.
Sally Dawson: Thank you for this video. I just fixed my customers 03 Yukon and having
this video helped a lot.
Scott Trunkhill: Does your cruise control work? If not it could be your vehicle speed sensor.
Ernesto Luzanilla: thanks for the video .... where i can get the new motors
Derric Hall: Excellent video. I just finished replacing the stepper motors in my '04
Silverado. Thank You Very Much ! I am retired and on a fixed income. Glad I
didn't have to pay the dealer hundreds....cost me $30. you saved the day
for me !!!!!!!!!
Jason Zajac: I would recommend against using that radioshack rosin core solder. Use a
good electronics grade NO CLEAN solder or else you will have problem in the
future. Also do yourself a favor and use a temp controlled ESD safe solder
station, not a cheap radioshack pencil or iron
IVAN MENDEZ: GOD BLESS PEOPLE WHO MAKE INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS LIKE THIS. THANK YOU SIR!
Scott Trunkhill: @CantBeTouched91 If you look in the video when the stepper motors are being
placed you can see the bulbs. They are in a blue base. Look around 2:44 in
44coonhunter: great video. my 04 z-71 speedo stopped working about 90,000 miles. my
dealer wants $370 to fix it and my old lady already got 2 speeding tickets
which cost 120 each. i'll be don this myself tis weekend. thanx!
Tony Raines: i just replaced backlight LEDs and 820 resisters and dash lights up
beautifully not too bright ,ok , now the downside fuel and temp gauges are
shot, where do i get those 2 gauges?
Adrian Mendoza: You guys make this look easy lol. Great vid tho
Flako Torres: ohh ok thank u .. nice video by the way
Matt B: Nice video , the fork idea was just awesome. Alot cheaper than buying a
puller and was a great help to me as I'm replacing all the gauge bulbs on
my 02 Venture. If your new to de-soldering you gotta watch that braided
solder wick, it's easy to accidently solder the wick to the pad and twist
or pull it off the pc board :(. Thanks for the video....
HomeFarmIdeas: Great video and thank you for doing this!! I just called the dealership and
they wanted like $550!! The problems I'm having with mine is the gear
indicator is deem and some lights are out. If its not out I was thinking it
may just need some fresh saunter. What do you think? Also, do you know
where I can get the bulbs and gear indicator? Just in case I need them:)
Scott Trunkhill: The fork it a cheap tool to pry the dials off. The tape is to make sure you
don't scratch anything.
IVAN MENDEZ: HI I WAS WONDERING WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THE FORK WITH A PIECE OF TAPE ON
THE BACK? YES I AM AN AMATEUR HAHA.
Jose Quan: Mr. trunk37 Thank you for your time, sharring this usefull video.
ERIC MADISON: thats great video
marjjr100: will the same stepper motors work on a 97 k1500 i see the it says for a
03-06 or are they different
Scott Trunkhill: I would try and figure out how far off they are and then mark the full left
position and then turn them the distance they are off. You may have to do
this to the right if they are off the other direction. For instance your
tach reads 1000 when it should read 0. Measure the difference between 0 and
1000. Turn the needle around til it stops and mark that location. Then turn
the needle farther to the left the same distance as you measured if was
off. This should get you close to the right spot.
ralph bacolod: This has been such a help .Saved me lots of money!
Ernesto Luzanilla: great video ....... where i can get the new motors
CantBeTouched91: to replace the lights in there would i have to take the needles out too?
help me im in the dark!!
rjsena01: My GMC Envoy (gage cluster - Speedo, Tac, Fuel, Oil, Temp and Voltage), all
were Non Functional. The next morning I powered up to start the vehicle and
all gages were working fine! Question ?__ Is this a sign of all Stepper
Motors going bad or is this something related? P.S. Thank You so Very Much
for your Video ( its greatly appreciated) Robert
Scott Trunkhill: @CantBeTouched91 I think you do because they are behind the overlay that
has the numbers and lines on. That plastic sheet would have to come out.
hackbotX: Very good video, I replaced the motors in my 2005 Sunfire and things work
well. One problem here, how the hell do you calibrate the pins?
